E-Comm Final

E-Communication has been a fun 4 years, and it is sad to see it end. Takeaways from E-Comm Senior Year Technical Skills - One of the biggest areas of improvements I have had throughout this year of E-Comm is with my editing skills. I've taken on the duties of Editor for many of my projects this year, and I was able to hone my skills and get to a place where I am proud to show off my editing. Communication - Communication was a struggle amongst all students this year with how often we had to switch the schooling style, from all online, to hybrid, to all in person. This made it difficult for us and lead to us having to communicate in different ways, whether it be through E-Mail, text, etc; However I feel like this struggle greatly improved my ability to communicate with other people. Collaboration - Collaboration is another part of E-Comm that was made hard this year due to the pandemic. However me and my groups were able to work together through different ways and work together on ...

2020 Film Reel

Image
At the end of 2020, we created the first round of our yearly film reels. My film reel was created with the intent to present myself as an editor, and a bit of my directing work. I feel like my reel did a good job showing off my editing, and that was given back in my feedback.      My reel was comprised of my best shots, and my best editing of those shots together. I feel like my editing style did have an impact on my reel, and made it unique, and original. In the film reel, as mentioned above, I presented myself as an editor and a filmmaker. I choose to brand myself as an editor because it is what I believe I am strongest at as an E-Comm student.     While creating this film reel, I had an original product, that I went back and edited to add more pieces of work into, and if I were to redo this I would try my best to add even more films into my reel. For this piece of work, if I were to do it again, I would keep the editing the...

E-Comm Commercial Project

Image
Commercial Project Overview     For this Commercial project my group decided to make a Snickers Commercial. Snickers commercials usually involve a main  character, that faces a problem due to being "hungry", which is then fixed due to them eating a Snickers. This is the concept we attempted to recreate with our own Snickers commercial.  Pre-Production     The whole process of our commercial started with Pre-Production. We started with the story boards. For the story boards, we got a rough idea of what we wanted to do and put it into picture form with a sentence or two explaining what was happening. Next we created our script. For this project we wrote the script differently than normal, we did something similar to the story board, where we have a little imagine showing what happens in the shot, but we had speaking lines in the side instead of explaining what was going on. We also took this pre-production time to work on shooting locatio...

2020 Film Reel Blogger

2020 Film Reel       The story I was trying to portray through my film reel was Teenage Life. The production roles that best represent my brand are Director and Editor. I occasionally take the role of Cinematographer as well. For this film reel, I only used shots from "The Date". I did this because I wanted to use only shots that I myself had shot, but I would use more material next time because my film reel lacked diversity due to that. On the other hand I used shots throughout my film reel that I felt had the strongest Cinematography, and lighting. I also would add some speaking lines to my film reel if I were to do this again. Even though I only used "The Date" for this film reel, I still took different shots and reorganized then and reedited them so it also showed off my editing talents. I wanted to try and make it feel very different from "The Date" even though I only used shots from my short-film, and I feel like I did that pretty well. Again if...

"The Date" Shortfilm

Image
The Date The short film I worked on was "The Date". The script we chose to create was my script. My original concept was a date that went wrong, and it ended up basically the same way I envisioned it. Once I finished writing the script we went to storyboards, location scouting, and tried to find actors. Once that was finished, we started filming. We filmed over 3-4 days due to limited sunlight, and it ended up being a problem due to it snowing between shoot days. Then I spent many hours editing at school and at home, then turned it in. For this project I was, writer, director, cinematographer, and editor. I learned a lot throughout this project, since it was my first time being the lead in every production role. My biggest take away was how important pre-production is. I knew it was important before, but more than ever I learned how important it is to plan ahead. I knew the Premiere software pretty well, but I learned more about how to create the project the way I wanted i...

Junior Year Video Class Final

Image
Entertainment Video Semester 1        This semester of Entertainment video has been my favorite semester of E-Comm so far throughout high school. So far this semester I've had to step up and take on more challenging roles that I haven't had to in the past, and I've enjoyed every second of it. Camera Assignment 1        Camera Assignment 1 was our my first project as a junior, and the first project as a whole for the class. At the beginning of the year most people in this class didn't know each other, so it was fun to meet new people and find other people to work on a short film with. I ended up being in a group with Carson, Seth, and Malik. We created a short film called, The Cola Predicament. This project took us 2-3 weeks to complete. Since this was my first project as a junior, and I was working with seniors, it was hard to find a place to fit in, where I could contribute to the film the best as I could. One thing that I learned from...

Graphic Design Final

Image
Graphic Design Final       The first project we did that I really enjoyed was the Poster Design project. This project was an advertisement we created for a made up event, that was to take place in the Sprint Center. This project took around a week and a half to do in class. A big challenged I faced was how to make the all the info need, like the time, date, location, etc; all fit into the poster without making the poster seem to crowded. Originally I wanted to use this font that looked cool and fit the theme for my poster, but I switched it after my teacher suggested it, because made some letters and the @ sign look very distorted. Originally in my design I wanted to have a very bright and color poster, but I found this nice picture of Adam Sandler that worked really well with a dark background, so I decided to go with a darker colored theme. Overall I'm happy with my poster design but wish I spent a little more time with blending everything...

Video Final

Video Final     Short Film          The last project we did sophomore year was our short film project. For this project we all created our own scripts. Once we took time to create or scripts we presented a short summary of them to the class. We then all went on google classroom to vote for our favorite. I was gone the day we chose groups so I ended up in DJ's group. I wasn't happy with this at first because I wasn't the biggest fan of his story, and I hadn't ever worked with anyone in his group before. A challenge I faced was when both of the days for filming were scheduled before I was there and they were both scheduled for days that I had work. That ended up working out because I wasn't needed for filming because they had all the roles filled and I wouldn't have done anything even if I didn't have work and I went. Since I didn't do much on filming, I worked on a lot of the pre production paperwork stuff, and I also made the grap...

Movie Trailer Project

Image
Movie Trailer Project        For our Movie Trailer film project we recreated the Napoleon Dynamite Trailer. Cole Bartley played the main character, Napoleon Dynamite; I played his friend who is running for president, Pedro; and the other minor rolls were filled by people in our group and one from another group. In our film I was a co-director and I created the the credit graphics at the end. Holly was co-director and did some of the camera work. Cade did a little of the camera and held the boom mic for a few scenes and played the dad in a scene. Jeremiah did camera work and held the mic when Cade wasn't there. Cole was the main actor in the video and helped plan the scenes out.        We started by planing out our filming with a story board. We wrote down all the scenes and grouped the scenes together based on their location so we were more efficient with the fi...

Vector Illustrated Portrait

Image
Pre-Production      For my Vector Illustrated Portrait I chose to do my dog. I chose this picture because I thought it was cute and it was a perfect high Rez photo for the project. When I put it into Illistraitor I had to crop it to fit the art board and I had to create a second one so that I had my original right next to it so I could make sure they both lined up. Production       There were a lot of new things I learned in photoshop from this project. I learned how to make multiple art boards and how you can how the photo you're working on right next to the original. I also learned how to can just click on a layer to fill the shape. Last I also learned how to effectively use eye dropper tool. One problem I had was not being able to find some of the triangles andI solved it by going back over everything carefully and making sure that I didn't miss them, and I found the ones I was missing...

Music Video Project

Song Chosen We choose "Flossin" by The Backpack Kid because it looked like a video that could be recreated pretty well, but still challenge our abilities. Pre Production Our Pre Production process started with the story board and music sheet. What we know now is that scheduling is very important and that we should have put as much time into that as we did the other stuff. My Role In my group I was the one who was organizing everything and made sure everything was running smoothly. Later on I also became the schedule master guy and was making sure that we all could film at times that line up for all of us. I also for half the project I was the care taker of the camera. I also organized the shots and what we needed to do each day. I learned a lot about the importance of scheduling and how important  making sure everything planned out in advanced is. There are a lot of things I would change when it comes to the approach we took on our project. Like I said before I...

Graphic Design Typography Project

Image
Pre-Production For my project I wanted to use quotes that were funny, yet I was able to change into a way that showed how I've improved after being in graphic design for so long. For fonts I choose fonts that matched the quotes and had the same kind of feeling as the quotes did.       Production  In this project I learned a lot more from illustrator than I thought I would at first. Main I learn how to important fonts into Illustrator and what website to use while doing it. I also learned how to create a multiple art board project and how to export it with multiple art boards.       I arranged my fonts in way I thought looked fun but still professional. I made sure there was equal spacing in between them and that they were centered correctly.       I feel like working in black and white was a great way to start our projects because we were able to focus on the layout of the quotes, the fonts we choose,...

Advance Feature New Story Blog Post

Image
For this feature News Story my group decided to interview the National Art Honors Society club, NAHS for short. We chose this club because of how underrepresented they are in the school. Once we found our topic we decided production roles. Kenzi was our director, John was the cinematographer, Lucas was the script supervisor, and I was the editor. Since this was Maicy's first project, she didn't have a role and just learned from us. Maicy knew someone who we could interview from NAHS but we were able to get a second interview from a senior in HAHS, the one seen in the video, and she was able to answer all the questions and it made for a better video.        For this project what I wanted to do differently was to try and make the video seem like the Interviewee was leading the interview. I tried to make it less question and answer, and make it flow more. I feel like this was an improvement from my last videos but there a...

Video Final

Image
What we did this Semester in Video We have done, and have learned a lot this year in video. We have learned a lot about different video things, and also about important skills that are needed for any job such as  communication, collaboration, project management, time management, leadership, and technical skills.           News Story (Drew and Diabetes) For this project we choose to interview Drew Sappingfield because he has diabetes. Diabetes is a very important topic that many kids don't know much about, including myself before this interview. We let Drew explain to us how diabetes effects his every day live and how more awareness can be brought to the issue. We used our knowledge of tripods to set up the perfect angle and we used the rule of thirds to make sure that the interview looked as professional as possible. We also made sure to get lots of B roll which I used at the right time to make it look even more professional. In editin...

ONW Now Reflection

Filming ONW Now      For the first time ever as sophomores we got the opportunity to film our own ONW Now. We started by all coming up with ideas for a news story by ourselves. Then we got assigned groups and all talked about what idea we should create into a full story. We decided on doing a story over the laptops, but when we went up to talk to Mrs. Zimmerli we found out the group before us had the same idea. We chose to use the assembly for our second idea even though it was risky because we would not have any footage to film or edit on block day. Finally when the day of the assembly came, we got news that it was cancelled. We needed something we could film as soon as possible because we were already a few days into the project without any footage. For our final idea we decided to do finals and different students favorite ways to study for them. We choose this because it was an idea we all liked and could be filmed right away.    ...

Graphic Design Final

Nature Man        One of the first projects we did was the nature man. We took a stock image of a man and turned it into our own design. There were many challenges many of us faces since we were still so new to photoshop. Being the first project we learned a lot about photoshop but it did take awhile compared to the amount of work completed in the short amount of time. Some feedback Was given was to try and use more of the new things we were learning like all the filters and different effects. I took that suggestion and I added some of new effects and things we learned earlier to my project. Overall I'm proud of this for it being my first project.    Color Paint          For the color paint project we took projects from the paste and but them onto a background we painted. This projects took a few weeks due to the multiple steps it required. Some challenges I faced is when I got hodge podge on the back o...

Writing a Newstory

Writing a news story is a craft that is often overlooked. The story is the backbone for the whole news piece. I started by watching the example news stories given in Google Classroom. I used those to see how news stories are put together to give the most information with the shortest about of time without making it feel rushed. I used the inverted pyramid to make it feel like the Interviewee was leading the story and not like the answers were forced by me, the interviewer. I also learned to use quotes sparingly and only where they will have the best affect.        One thing I liked about this project is that it's our first project where we have had full creative control. We got too choose our topic, and show off everything we have learned since freshman year. Something I also liked is how much like an actual news show the process of creating the show is. Just like an actual show there is a deadline that needs to be met and if it isn't the...

Ecomm News Story

This week all ONW students will be getting Dell laptops to be used for school. Many students have different opinions on whether they belive the laptops are a benefit or not to students and teacher. (Different interviews with students) As you can see there are many different opinions on the effectiveness of computers and wether they will impact learning in a good or bad way.  Teachers have different opinions than student on the addition of laptops (Interview with different teachers and their opinions) Whether laptops are good or not for the school is something that can only be determined over time. Thanks for listening Ravens now back to the desk!

Convergence Journalism Feature Story Blog

For this group project we decided to interview Drew Sappingfield on a few different topics about his Diabetes including, the everyday struggles he has to deal with surrounding his Diabetes. We started pre production by making sure we had everything we needed for the day like a good location, camera, microphone, and everything. We also made a script of the questions that we would ask Drew to make sure the answers would inform people and spread awareness. For the interview we made sure was looking at me and not directly at the camera.      For editing I used Adobe Premier. I made sure I had enough time for this one to put in my best effort. My first version of the project had my voice over asking the questions like it was any regular interview. With my revised version I went through and redid all the video overs and made the answer connect to what I was saying and not like a straight interview.       ...

Water Color Transfer Printing Process and Experience

Image
In graphic design this week we used more art than computers. We created prints the old fashioned way by using mod podge to transfer the ink to noter paper.        We started by choosing our favorite project we have created this year. I decided on my Nature Man photoshop challenge. I really like the vibrant colors and the look of the project and its the one I'm most proud of. Next ! used photoshop to make a new canvas and place the original Nature Man Photoshop project next to a black and white so we could choose which ever one we though was best. Next we took yardstick paper and used our creative sides to paint a cool background. The next day after the papers had dried we took our printed projects and covered the front in Mod Podge. Then we placed the projects on to the painted paper and let the Mod Podge dry. Then on the third day we pealed the paper off of the painted paper. I accidentally got Mod...
